In July of last year, we announced our commitment that by early 2026, 100% of our products would be free of artificial dyes – a goal which we’ve now proudly reached.
This shift did not happen overnight, the move has been in progress since 2015. In fact, every new product that’s been released since 2018 – including Welch’s® Fruit Snacks Summer Fruits and Mango-Peach, Welch’s® Juicefuls® and Welch’s® Fusions™, and Welch’s® Absolute Fruitfuls™ Fruit Strips – has featured colors from natural sources. The last move was the trickiest: shifting Welch’s® Fruit Snacks time-honored favorites, including Mixed Fruit and Berries ‘N Cherries, to be made with no artificial dyes.
As the #1 Fruit Snacks brand in the U.S. – we know great products can be made even greater. We saw that consumers have been looking for dye-free alternatives and we wanted to deliver. We no longer contain Red Dye 40, Blue 1, or any other synthetic dyes across our entire Welch’s® Fruit Snacks portfolio.
When you have iconic products loved by millions of consumers every day, you never want to risk making a change that could disappoint them. We have very high expectations to maintain in terms of taste, texture, and overall snacking experience. We had to ensure we were not compromising on the things we know parents and kids alike love about Welch’s® Fruit Snacks: Real Fruit and great taste.
At Welch’s® Fruit Snacks we are always looking to consistently improve our products, while keeping whole fruits at the center of our product portfolio. Even with the transition to colors from natural sources, we’re still committed to all of our products being gluten-free and a source of Vitamins A, C and E. When will we be able to buy these products on shelves?
All Welch’s® Fruit Snacks are now made without artificial dyes and with colors from natural sources. Availability may vary during the transition. For the most accurate details, always check the product packaging.
Why did this transition take so long?
Transitions like this take time to ensure no compromises were made on the things we know people love about Welch’s® Fruit Snacks. Replicating our iconic fruit snacks using only colors from natural sources wasn’t easy. We had to trial dozens of options to find combinations that delivered brightness, durability, and shelf life.
How will I know if my Fruit Snacks are dye-free?
The best way to confirm is by checking the ingredient panel on the side or back of the package. This lists all ingredients, including color sources. You’ll also start to see updated front of pack text callouts like “colors from natural sources” or “no artificial dyes”.
